100 calorie limit breached

We should have known Americans wouldn't be happy with their 100 calorie snack-packs.  They did last quite a while though.

Snackwells has just up'd their snack-paks from 100 calories to 150 calories.

  1. I would love to see these snack packs go from 100 to 150 calories because of an increase in healthy ingredients - unfortunately, that isn't the case. We needn't be so hung up on numbers that the numbers help us disregard ingredients. Nabisco, the parent company, produced all of these low calorie snack options yet continues to use unhealthy ingredients in the snack pack. For example, the Oreo 100 calorie pack top ingredients are as follows: bleached enriched flour (why not just use whole wheat flour), sugar, canola and or palm oil, high fructose corn syrup and fructose. I don't want any amount of calories of that mixture...

  2. I agree! This is just another example of industries taking advantage of the obesity crisis. Instead of informing individuals about what types of calories and nutrients they should be taking in, they just put out more processed food that got us here in the first place. A lot of the American population doesn't even know what a calorie actually is and what its function is. The industries aren't changing anything, they are just handing out more of the same stuff but in sneakier forms.

  3. I find this to be very interesting! it's kind of ironic that all of the "portion-controlled" calorie items are unhealthy items. It's interesting that food companies need to put unhealthy snacks in smaller packaging because consumers do not have the ability to control themselves when they indulge. This made me think of that article we read in class about those who count calories are the ones who actually end up eating more, which defeats the purpose of this whole movement.
