Beautiful, Haunting Infomercial...True?

Recently Chipotle released an infomercial  (Scarecrow) that has gained a lot of attention. It is said to be more beautiful than many Hollywood films. The message is (mainly) that the factory farms of America are destroying our society (overstatement? What do you think the message is?). There is very little branding in this message - just a brief shot at the very end of the video.

You can find copies of this in many places around the internet. On the page that I linked, there is a large section of comments at the bottom of the page. One of the comments reads as such, "This is great, but they're conveniently leaving out the part where they still slaughter a bunch of (happier?) cows, chicken and pigs for their burritos. It's not like Chipotle is vegetarian, which is what you'd think from this ad? The scarecrow is just chopping up veggies at the end."

Chipotle is hopeful that consumers will see their company as a fast food restaurant with a brain. What are your thoughts on the film?

  1. I loved the quality of the commercial chipotle really did a good job with this one although I have never seen a commercial on TV this one had my attention from the start, as it grasps you with the scarecrows emotion but though that the best shot was of the cow when you can see the sadness in its eyes. Overall great commercial that really makes us think about what we eat.

  2. This Ad pretty much portrays our food industry and how Americans create and make their food. Even though many people still know how everything works will continually to eat the food that being processed this way. Also the lies with the "all natural" when the food is being processed in the least bit natural way. The end of the video with the healthy fresh vegetables created a feel of a better place and shows the little boy intrigued what that 'fresh' smell was.

  3. I really liked the relationship portrayed between the scarecrow and the crows. Essentially it is trying to say the average workers are the scarecrows and the crows are the big corporate companies that only run after profits without caring about the environment and needs of others. To the comment someone said how it doesn't show the cows and chickens being slaughtered, well how else is Chipotle supposed to run its business? They specialize in burritos and salad bowls that require meat and chicken of some sort, but the fact that they created this video shows that they are aware of other companies, possibly food and other industries, and how they are looking at corporate social responsibility. This is actually a reassuring video to see because it's nice to know that a company like Chipotle is aware of the problems in our food industry. Now whether they take steps or actions to solve this problem, only time will tell, but it is more action taken than some other companies which do just continue to act like the crows and are hungry for profit alone.
